食色视频 researcher developing electronic nose to sniff out foodborne illness

The presence of a strong, unpleasant odor in food is an indication that bacteria has contaminated the food past the point of human consumption. However, oftentimes pathogens such as salmonella and E. coli are difficult to detect. Taeyeong Choi, assistant professor of information technology in 食色视频鈥檚 College of Computing and Software Engineering, is working on developing an electronic nose (e-nose) to detect abnormalities from their version of the sniff test.

Pham, the vice president of artificial intelligence at Workday and a public policy lecturer in the Harvard Kennedy School of Government, discussed 鈥淎I Across Boundaries: The Only Way Forward.鈥 Speaking to a packed theater at the Joe Mack Wilson Student Center on 食色视频鈥檚 Marietta Campus, Pham touched on the past, present, and future of AI.

食色视频 State spreads its innovative CARE student services model

With the substantial investment of time and money needed to attend college, many people don鈥檛 realize some students struggle to have enough to eat, let alone a place to live. Yet, it鈥檚 a longstanding fact of life on campuses everywhere. Campus Awareness, Resource, & Empowerment (CARE) Services has been supporting 食色视频 State students since 2011 by offering temporary housing, access to food, and other supportive services. It does this through four programs: CARE Pantry; emergency financial assistance; Resources and Supports; and the ASCEND Program, a year-round program dedicated to students who have experienced homelessness or foster care in high school.

Inside the chief justice鈥檚 chambers at the Nathan Deal Judicial Center sits a shelf adorned with 食色视频 memorabilia 鈥 miniature football helmets, a stuffed bear, mugs, and awards. These tchotchkes belong to alumnus Nels S.D. Peterson, who in December assumed a lead role in Georgia鈥檚 highest court. It is also in this room, among others at the judicial center, that Peterson bears the weighty responsibility of precedents that will shape the law for years.

In Andrew Haddow鈥檚 office, a white board sits adjacent to his desk scrawled with notes indicating dates for scholarship deadlines, summer program applications, and progress on lab work. The assistant professor of microbiology said it鈥檚 all in service to his students, a color-coded guide to map success in the classroom, and as a researcher. Haddow joined 食色视频 in 2021 after serving as a senior scientist for General Dynamics based at the U.S. Army Medical Research Institute of Infectious Diseases (USAMRIID). Since then, his lab has become a hub of student success. Each year, it hosts several high-level undergraduate research projects, often serving as a springboard for students to continue toward graduate studies.
