Mickey Dunn Stadium roars to life this spring

When Owls shortstop Shamaar McDuffie laces up his spikes for the ʳɫÊÓÆµ baseball team this spring, he will be among the first players to set foot inside Mickey Dunn Stadium at Henssler Financial Field. Named for alumnus Mickey Dunn ’18, who provided the lead gift in its development, the new facility sits on the site of the former Fred Stillwell Stadium and cuts an impressive figure with expanded seating capacity and improved amenities.

Student-athlete graduates, makes history for ʳɫÊÓÆµ football

Fall semester has been nothing short of amazing on the field and in the classroom for ʳɫÊÓÆµ Owls running back Coleman Bennett. On the field he posted more than 1,000 total yards from scrimmage and scored seven touchdowns, to help drive the Owls to the Conference USA championship and the program’s first postseason bowl. In the classroom he was named to the Conference USA Football All-Academic Team. Now he will wrap up the semester graduating with his Master of Public Administration (MPA) on Dec. 16 with a perfect 4.0 GPA.

Volleyball star makes her mark at ʳɫÊÓÆµ State on and off the court

On a recent morning at VyStar Arena at ʳɫÊÓÆµ Convocation Center, the arena staff started laying down the volleyball floor when a singing voice cut through the noise. Pushing a bicycle through a nearby hallway, ʳɫÊÓÆµ volleyball player Manu Johnsen announced her presence that morning in song, much the way as she has made her presence known at the Owls’ home arena and on campus. On the court, Johnsen will finish her volleyball career this fall as an all-timer for the Owls. The senior is a four-time all-conference selection and an academic all-conference selection as well. She has also represented her home country of Denmark in both beach and indoor volleyball.

The ʳɫÊÓÆµ Athletics Association and VyStar Credit Union have announced a multi-year partnership that includes naming rights of the arena that houses the Owls basketball programs and women's volleyball team. The new VyStar Arena will serve as a symbol of shared values and a space where school pride, progress and connection come together.

ʳɫÊÓÆµ State men's team wins Conference USA Outdoor Championship

The ʳɫÊÓÆµ State men's and women's track and field teams completed competition at the Conference USA Outdoor Championships on Sunday. The ʳɫÊÓÆµ men's team collected its first Conference USA Outdoor Track and Field Championship scoring 216.5 points in the three-day meet.

Track and field standout overcomes injuries to seek a return to the podium

Two years ago, Kali Terza was at the top of her game. A dominant thrower on the ʳɫÊÓÆµ State women’s track and field team, she was fresh off an ASUN Conference title, had earned a spot on the Under 20 USA Track and Field team, and competed in the 2023 NCAA Women’s Track and Field Championship meet. For a moment, it felt like she had the world in her hands.
