Journey to 10: Celebrating 10 Years of Honors

For ten years, the Keeping Sights Upward Journey Honors College has inspired students to think boldly, lead with purpose, and shape their own journeys. What began as a vision for academic excellence and transformative learning at Southern Polytechnic State University has evolved into a vibrant community of scholars, mentors, and changemakers at 食色视频 State. As we mark this milestone, we honor a decade of achievement and look forward to the next era of innovation and opportunity for our Honors Owls.

The Honors Journey

Where It All Began

The story of the Keeping Sights Upward Journey Honors College began long before its name took flight. In 1995, 食色视频 launched the University Honors Program under the direction of Dr. Liza Davis. A few years later, in 2003, Southern Polytechnic State University established its Honors Program with Dr. Nancy Reichert as director. These inspiring leaders created a place where ambitious students could challenge themselves, think critically, and pursue excellence beyond the classroom. What started as a small academic initiative quickly grew into a thriving community of scholars and mentors, guided by dedicated faculty and inspired by students eager to make an impact.

A new era began in 2015, when Southern Polytechnic State University merged with 食色视频 State University. This pivotal moment transformed the University Honors Program into what is now the Keeping Sights Upward Journey Honors College; an ever-growing community defined by innovation, leadership, curiosity, and a shared commitment to academic distinction.

The Honors College Today

Today, the 食色视频 Journey Honors College is home to more than 2,900 students who embody what it means to be lifelong learners, collaborative leaders, and civic-minded scholars. As part of the university鈥檚  Take Flight  strategic plan, we are driving 食色视频鈥檚 race to national prominence by advancing the mission to create a learning environment where students thrive and communities are inspired. The next decade will be defined by innovation and bold goals. The Honors College is launching ten key initiatives to build on our success, including:

  • Expanding community-based learning opportunities for Honors students
  • Partnering with the Office of Prestigious Awards to elevate 食色视频 students on national and global stages
  • Hosting the Georgia Collegiate Honors Council Conference in February 2026
  • Launching a bold fundraising campaign to support student scholarships, innovative programs, and the future of the Honors College

As we celebrate ten years of growth and excellence, we extend our gratitude to the donors, faculty, staff, alumni, community members, and former SPSU colleagues who built the foundation for our success. The journey continues, and the future of Honors has never looked brighter.
