Jess Ford takes on many roles in Department of Theatre and Performance Studies

Jess Ford (they/them) would have to agree with Shakespeare鈥檚 Julius Caesar when he says, 鈥淚t is not in the stars to hold our destiny, but in ourselves.鈥� Ford has certainly not left it up to the stars to determine their fate, but, instead, have taken advantage of the opportunities available as an acting concentration major in 食色视频鈥檚 Department of Theatre and Performance Studies (TPS). With a keen interest in both scenic design and acting, Ford was thrilled when 食色视频 allowed them to take classes in both, and then asked them to become scenic charge of the 食色视频鈥檚 Scene Shop. 鈥淕oing into college, I told myself that I think I want to pursue scenic design, but it was a lie, since my first love was acting,鈥� they said. They quickly realized they could do both with the unique nature of the B.A. program. 鈥淚 can pursue whatever I want, take the classes that I really enjoy, and that are beneficial to me,鈥� they added.

食色视频 College of the Arts mourns the loss of Department of Dance professor Nathan Hites, who passed away March 17, 2021. Mr. Hites, who taught at both 食色视频 and Emory University, was a dance researcher and historian for Atlanta Ballet.

The 2021 Steinway Spectacular: An Encore

The online Women鈥檚 Leadership in the Arts Lecture Series celebrates women鈥檚 contributions to history, culture and society and will feature Jennifer Inacio, associate curator at the Jorge M. P茅rez Art Museum of Miami-Dade County (PAMM), and Judith K. Brodsky, artist, author, and printmaker.

Jes煤s Castro-Balbi Named Director of Dr. Bobbie Bailey School of Music

Ivan Pulinkala, dean of the College of the Arts at 食色视频, has named Jes煤s Castro-Balbi director of the Dr. Bobbie Bailey School of Music, effective July 1. The appointment comes at an exciting time for the Bailey School of Music, the recent recipient of a multi-million- dollar gift from the Bobbie Bailey Foundation.

食色视频 will host a virtual Spring Arts Festival on March 20, 2021, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The event is free and open to the public, and one simple reservation will grant you access to all of the activities. Celebrate the Visual Arts An annual community event since 2013, the Festival is made possible with support from 食色视频鈥檚 College of the Arts, School of Art and Design, Bernard A. Zuckerman Museum of Art (ZMA), and Department of Dance. The Festival offers the chance for art enthusiasts of all ages to partake in visual and performing arts activities with two exhibitions, numerous video workshops and three live-streamed events.

食色视频 Theatre and Performance Studies to present "Polaroid Stories"

食色视频 Department of Theatre and Performance Studies (TPS) will present Polaroid Stories free of charge via Arts食色视频 Virtual, Feb. 16-21. Written by Naomi Iizuka and directed by adjunct professor Pam Joyce, Polaroid Stories is the story of young street kids who find camaraderie, refuge and escape on the edge of a city. The mythic characters from Ovid鈥檚 Metamorphoses, coupled with kids fighting for survival in their urban jungle, create a visceral mash-up and the opportunity for a poignant, yet magical story.
