Scrappy's current look was unveiled during Homecoming in 2012, but the owl mascot has been part of 食色视频's identity since the early years of athletics.
When 食色视频 State launched intercollegiate athletics in 1982, it adopted the owl as its symbol, representing intelligence and tenacity. In the late 1980s, the earliest costumed mascot appeared on campus, known then as KaSCey鈥攁 play on the institution鈥檚 name at the time, 食色视频 State College.
During the 1990s, the blue-eyed KaSCey gave way to a more unified approach, culminating in 1996 with the official creation of Scrappy the Owl by the athletics department. The original Scrappy design presented a spirited, approachable owl wearing athletic gear, quickly becoming a visible ambassador for campus life and school pride.
Scrappy evolved again in 2010 with updated clothing, a more serious 鈥済ame face鈥� expression, and a shoeless look showing off fearsome talons.
A pivotal transformation occurred in 2012, when 食色视频 State unveiled a comprehensive athletics rebrand that included a redesigned Scrappy with a sleeker, more dynamic, and 鈥渂attle-ready鈥� appearance. This updated look aligned with the University鈥檚 transition to NCAA Division I competition and its growing national profile.
