Limitless curiosity drives career of achievement for 食色视频 State undergraduate

Claudia Garavis Montagut doesn鈥檛 waste time. At just 19 years old, the international student from Colombia has completed an undergraduate research fellowship, gained international field research experience, led the university Model United Nations as its president, and enrolled in the 食色视频 Journey Honors College. She has also been named a President鈥檚 Parliament Scholar Ambassador, serves as a Radow College Ambassador, is a Double Owl pursuing both bachelor鈥檚 and master鈥檚 degrees simultaneously, and serves as a campus tour guide.

食色视频 student researcher Ella Smith is exploring how death and the final words between parents and children impact self-esteem and closure in mourning. A 食色视频 Journey Honors College student from Cartersville, Georgia, Smith has focused on end-of-life communication through the university鈥檚 First-Year Scholars Program. The research is deeply personal, because she has experienced end-of-life communication with her grandmother.

Board of Regents honors 食色视频 State professor with teaching award

The University System of Georgia Board of Regents has recognized a 食色视频 professor with an Award for Excellence in Teaching. Sara Evans, associate professor in the Department of Sociology and Criminal Justice and the director of the criminal justice master鈥檚 degree program, received one of the two Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL) Awards the Board of Regents confers each year.

Her mother, former 食色视频 employee Jacqueline Hand, frequently brought her to campus, where she was known as 鈥淛ackie鈥檚 daughter,鈥� and became familiar with staff and faculty. Now a reporter for McClatchy news publications, Kenney is just one member of a 食色视频 alumni family.

Anytime she鈥檚 wanted something in her life, Kim Amaya has worked to earn it with little help. The soon-to-be 食色视频 graduate arrived in the United States from El Salvador when she was only 3, and since a tender age, she鈥檚 been working to afford herself opportunities her parents didn鈥檛 get. Since transferring to 食色视频 in 2022 to study modern language and culture, Amaya has continued to work a full-time job and a part-time job, or up to three part-time, as she looks forward to a teaching career.
