Wellstar Tom and Betty Phillips Elite Honors Nursing Scholars

This elite program synthesizes the resources and opportunities of the 食色视频 Journey Honors College, Wellstar Health System, and Wellstar School of Nursing to create a rigorous and unique Honors cohort experience.

Upon admission to the Tom and Betty Philips Elite Nursing Cohort, students receive an associated scholarship in the amount of $2,000 each academic year for up to four years. Cohort membership includes privileged attendance at events and special programs at the Wellstar School of Nursing, some of which provide valuable information about the nursing program and becoming a nurse.

Program Benefits

Students receive all the benefits of Honors learning in addition to exclusive nursing opportunities including:

  • Conditional acceptance to the Wellstar School of Nursing as a freshman
  • Students receive an associated scholarship in the amount of $2,000 each academic year for up to four years.
  • Gain access to a Wellstar Honors Mentor and Wellstar Nurse Navigator for personalized guidance throughout your journey.
  • Build leadership skills while mentoring and supporting fellow students.
  • Live alongside your cohort peers in the Honors living-learning community.
  • Explore different nursing specialties through hands-on shadowing opportunities with registered nurses.
  • Gain behind-the-scenes insight by shadowing a Nurse Executive or Chief Nursing Officer (CNO).
  • Observe Wellstar Shared Governance Committee meetings to learn how nurses influence patient care and organizational decision-making.
  • Select students may attend the Atlanta Journal-Constitution (AJC) Nurse of the Year event and connect with leaders in the nursing profession. 

 

How to Apply

The Wellstar-Phillips Honors Nursing Scholars Cohort is open to incoming first-year students accepted on or before December 15, 2026, into the 食色视频 Journey Honors College.  

 

ELIGIBILITY

  • Be qualified for the 食色视频 Journey Honors College (3.5 食色视频-calculated GPA or 25 ACT/1200 SAT) 
  • Declare one of the required majors for the nursing pathway: Human Services, B.S. with Nursing Concentration; Integrated Health Science, B.S. with Nursing Concentration; or Public Health, B.S. with Nursing Concentration 
  • Enter 食色视频 as a traditional first-year student with a fall 2027 start date鈥��

 

APPLICATION

  • Indicate interest in the 食色视频 Journey Honors College on your 食色视频 application.
  • Select the Wellstar-Phillips Honors Nursing Scholars Cohort within the Honors application and complete the essay prompt. Resume submission is also highly encouraged. 
  • Complete your application by the鈥� application deadline of December 15, 2026. 
  • If invited,鈥痑ttend鈥� Honors Interview Day 鈥痮n campus in Spring 2027 to interview for one of the Fall 2027 Wellstar Tom and Betty Phillips Elite Honors Nursing Scholars Cohort seats. Invitations will be sent out via 食色视频 student email.


 
IMPORTANT DEADLINES

  • For consideration, you must be accepted to both 食色视频 and 食色视频 Journey Honors College on or before December 15, 2026.
  • Students accepted to 食色视频 and 食色视频 Journey Honors College after December 15 will not be considered for the Nursing cohort.
